Your AI Connector Docs

Guided Onboarding

When you log in for the first time, a full-screen guided onboarding wizard walks you through everything you need to launch your first AI agent. The wizard adapts to your business — it has up to 13 steps, but only shows the ones that are relevant to you based on how you answer along the way.

Everything you fill in goes onto one AI agent, which exists from the moment the wizard reads your website. There’s no separate campaign created behind your back: what you build here is the agent you’ll keep editing afterwards on the AI Agents page.

How the Wizard Works

The wizard takes you through one screen at a time, with a step indicator at the top showing your progress.

  • Steps adapt to your choices. Whether you see the booking steps, the calendar steps, or the contact-import step depends entirely on what you pick earlier in the flow — see the conditional steps below.
  • You can go back. Use the back button to return to any previous step and change your answers.
  • Your progress is saved. If you close the wizard and come back later, it offers to resume exactly where you left off — or you can start fresh. If you’d already started the wizard before the agent-first version arrived, resuming keeps you on the flow you began, unchanged; start fresh to get the newer one.
  • Completing steps earns bonus credits. Connecting a channel, connecting Google Calendar, and a few other milestone steps quietly add bonus credits to your account balance as you complete them, on top of whatever your plan already includes.

The Onboarding Steps

What Industry Are You In?

Pick the industry that best describes your business:

  • High-Ticket Services (Consulting, Coaching, B2B Services)
  • Real Estate
  • E-commerce
  • SaaS Companies
  • Social Media Brands
  • Educational Institutions
  • Agencies
  • Other Industries

The platform uses your selection to tailor the AI agent’s instructions and the rest of the wizard to your industry.

How Do Conversations Usually Start?

This step decides whether your AI agent should sit and wait for messages, or open the conversation itself:

  • My customer messages me first — they DM you, message you, or fill out a form, and your AI replies.
  • I message my customer first — you already have their number and want the AI to reach out.

Your answer here filters which use cases are available on the next step — for example, if customers message you first, use cases that require you to reach out first (like database reactivation) aren’t offered, and vice versa.

What’s the #1 Thing Your AI Agent Should Do?

Choose your primary use case. This tells the AI what to focus on:

  • Database reactivation — Re-engage past customers who have gone quiet. (Requires “I message my customer first.”)
  • Review automation — Automatically collect customer reviews. (Requires “I message my customer first.”)
  • Lead follow-up — Nurture leads from form submissions. (Requires “I message my customer first.”)
  • Customer support — 24/7 automated support answering FAQs. (Requires “My customer messages me first.”)
  • Comment to DM — Automatically DM users who comment on your social media posts. (Requires “My customer messages me first.”)

You can always expand to other use cases later, but picking one to start helps the platform set up the best configuration for you.

Should the AI Book Meetings for You?

Choose how you want to handle appointments:

  • No bookings — The AI won’t try to schedule meetings.
  • External booking link — The AI shares your existing Cal.com, Calendly, or other scheduling link when it’s relevant. You paste the link right on this step.
  • AI books for me — The AI offers real slots from your calendar and confirms automatically, without any manual work from your side.

Connect Google Calendar (conditional)

This step only appears if you chose AI books for me. Connecting Google Calendar lets the platform:

  • See your existing appointments and avoid double-booking.
  • Automatically add new bookings to your calendar.
  • Keep everything in sync both ways — changes in Google Calendar are reflected in the app, and vice versa.

This step is optional even when it’s shown — you can skip it and connect Google Calendar later.

When Are You Available? (conditional)

This step only appears alongside AI-powered booking. Set your business hours and availability windows so the bot knows when you’re free — which days of the week you’re available, and your start and end times for each day.

Bring In Your Contacts (conditional)

This step only appears if you picked Database reactivation as your use case. Bring in your existing contacts so you can start re-engaging them right away:

  • Import from CSV — Upload a spreadsheet of contacts with names and phone numbers.
  • Add manually — Type in contacts one at a time.

You can skip this step and add contacts later if you prefer.

What’s Your Website?

Enter your website URL and let the AI do the heavy lifting. This is the step that creates your AI agent — from here on, everything the wizard asks you is being saved onto that agent. The AI reads your website and automatically:

  • Generates your AI agent’s instructions tailored to your business, products, and services.
  • Creates FAQ entries based on the information found on your site.

The pages the crawler finds are shown to you first, so you can tick the ones worth using and untick the rest (the picker marks the pages it recommends and the ones it suggests skipping). You can upload files here too. Whatever you pick becomes your agent’s knowledge — the same pages and files it will answer from later — as well as the material the instructions and FAQs are written from, and the progress bar you watch is your agent being built.

Already added your website before? If your account already has pages or files in its knowledge base — from an agent you set up earlier, or from the Knowledge Base page — this step offers Use my existing knowledge base and starts on that option. You get a list of everything you already have, with all of it ticked, and you can search it and untick anything this agent shouldn’t use. Nothing gets imported a second time, so you aren’t charged for it again, and your new agent is still created right here from what you picked. If you’d rather add something new instead, switch to Add a new website or files and the step works exactly as described above.

This saves you a lot of time — instead of writing everything from scratch, you get a ready-made starting point that you can review and refine.

This step also asks for your AI’s primary language. It starts on whatever language you use the app in, so most of the time you can leave it alone. Set it before you click Import: the instructions and FAQs the AI writes for you are written in this language. It isn’t a lock — your bot still answers each contact in the language that contact writes in — and you can change it later on the agent’s AI Instructions tab.

Where Do Your Customers Message You?

Connect at least one messaging channel so you can send and receive messages:

  • WhatsApp Business — Choose to connect a WhatsApp number you already have, or get a new one right from the wizard, then pick how it should be connected: managed by us, through our Meta app, or through your own Meta app. If you bought a number earlier but didn’t finish its WhatsApp registration, the tile offers Finish setting up for that exact number instead of starting over.
  • WhatsApp Web — Scan a QR code to connect your WhatsApp number. This is the fastest option.
  • SMS — Connect your Twilio number for text messaging.
  • Facebook and Instagram — Link your business accounts to handle Messenger and Instagram DMs.
  • Website Chat Widget — Create an embeddable chat widget for your site.
  • Telegram, LINE, and Email — Connect these channels the same way you would in Settings. If you already connected one of these before starting the wizard, it shows up here as already connected.

Pick the channel your customers use most. You can add more channels at any time later: open Settings → Channels → Channels.

Meet Your AI Agent

Meet the agent the previous step built for you, drafted from your industry, use case, and website content — so the bot already has a solid starting point for talking to your customers. This step is also where you pick the AI’s response speed (how quickly and how many messages it sends per turn).

This step also shows the Tell contacts they’re chatting with AI setting, on by default: the AI’s very first reply to each contact naturally mentions it’s an AI assistant, which keeps you covered by transparency laws like the EU AI Act. While it’s on, instructions that tell the AI to present itself as a human or staff member are overridden. You can switch it off here, from the note shown in the AI Instructions editors, or later on the AI Abilities tab — see AI Transparency for what that means for compliance.

Review the agent’s name and instructions. The generated content is fully customizable — adjust anything you like, and you can always fine-tune it later.

An agent has no opening message of its own: it answers what comes in. When you want to start the conversation — messaging a list of contacts with an opener — that’s a Broadcast, which you create after onboarding and point at this same agent for the replies.

How Should the AI Follow Up?

Set up automated follow-up messages for contacts who don’t reply. Follow-ups are one of the most effective ways to get responses:

  • Choose how long to wait before sending a follow-up.
  • Customize the follow-up message content.
  • Set how many follow-ups to send before stopping.

This step is your agent’s own Follow-ups tab, shown inside the wizard — so what you set here is exactly what you’ll see (and can change) on the agent afterwards. See Automated Follow-Ups.

Test & Adjust

This is where the wizard goes further than a static review. Instead of a read-only summary, this step drops the real agent editor into the wizard — the same tabs you’ll use from the AI Agents page — so you can talk to your new AI agent before it goes anywhere near a real contact:

  • Try Out — chat with the agent exactly as a contact would.
  • AI Instructions — the AI instructions generated from your website, editable in place.
  • FAQs & Knowledge — the FAQ entries and pages generated from your website.

Chat with it, spot anything off, fix it in the relevant tab, and test again — the same replay loop covered in Chat Playground, just built into onboarding. Because these are the agent’s own tabs, nothing here is a wizard-only copy: an edit you make is an edit to the agent.

All Set

Finishing the wizard puts your agent to work, in this order:

  • Everything you answered along the way is saved onto the agent.
  • Each channel you connected during the wizard is wired up as an Entry Point for the agent, so new conversations arriving there reach it. A channel that another agent already answers is left alone rather than taken over — nothing you set up earlier is quietly rerouted.
  • If your use case is comment-to-DM, the keywords you gave become comment entry points on your social accounts.
  • Your agent is switched Active last, once everything above is in place — so it never goes live half-configured, and you can’t finish onboarding with an account whose AI answers nothing.

The wizard then drops you into your agent’s editor, where you can keep tuning it. Your Dashboard is where you’ll watch the messaging activity and results once conversations start coming in. See Entry Points for how routing works from here.

Tips for a Smooth Onboarding

  • Have your website URL ready. The website analysis step saves you the most time by auto-generating your AI agent’s instructions and FAQs.
  • Building a second agent? Reuse what you already have. On the website step, pick Use my existing knowledge base instead of adding your site again — it’s instant, and you don’t pay to import the same pages twice.
  • Start with one channel. Pick the channel your customers use most. You can always add more later.
  • Review the AI-generated content in Test & Adjust. The instructions and FAQs created from your website are a great starting point, but actually chatting with the agent before you finish catches things a silent read-through won’t.
  • Don’t overthink it. You can change every setting after onboarding. The goal is to get up and running quickly, then refine as you go.

After Onboarding

Once the wizard is complete, your agent is live and your Dashboard shows your messaging analytics. From here you can:

  • Fine-tune your AI agent’s instructions and FAQs on its page under AI Agents.
  • Add more messaging channels, and point them at this agent (or another one) from Entry Points.
  • Build a second agent for a different use case, and start messaging lists of contacts as Broadcasts — see Campaigns Have Moved to Broadcasts & Agents.
  • Invite team members to help manage conversations.
