Your AI Connector Docs

Viber

Connect your own Viber bot so your Viber conversations flow into the app and an AI Agent can reply. You connect by pasting one value (your bot’s auth token) and we handle the rest of the setup for you.

What Is the Viber Integration?

The Viber integration links a Viber bot you own to the platform using Viber’s official Bot API, Viber’s own system for sending and receiving messages automatically, instead of you typing them by hand. Conversations between your bot and the people who follow it become available inside the app, and an AI Agent and a shared inbox work on top of them.

This is an official integration, so it’s stable and within Viber’s rules.

Availability. Viber is most widely used in the Philippines, Vietnam and other parts of Southeast Asia, and across Eastern Europe and Greece.

Before You Start

You need your own Viber bot, and Viber only issues bots on a paid business plan. Since February 2024, Viber no longer creates free bots. You set the account up directly with Viber, and that account and its fees stay between you and Viber. We don’t resell it, mark it up, or take a cut, and we can’t create the bot on your behalf.

At the time of writing, Viber charges a monthly fee per bot plus a per-message charge for messages your bot starts (see Cost below). Check Viber’s current terms when you sign up, since their pricing is theirs to change.

There’s no self-serve signup form. Viber reviews every chatbot application by hand, and you apply one of two ways:

  • Through a verified Viber partner, which is the route Viber recommends and usually the faster one.
  • Directly with Viber, by emailing partners@viber.com. If you already work with Viber, your business account manager can start it instead.

Once your application is approved you sign Viber’s agreement and accept their commercial terms, and your bot is created.

After that, you’ll find its token in the Viber app under More → Settings → Bots → Edit Info → Your app key. Viber calls it your app key; their API docs call the same value an authentication token, and bot admins can also see it in Viber’s own admin panel. Whatever it’s labelled, it’s the one value this app asks for.

That token is the only thing you need from Viber. Setup here takes about a minute.

Setting Up Viber

Step 1: Copy Your Bot’s Auth Token

The quickest place to find it is the Viber app on your phone.

  1. Open Viber on the phone whose account owns the bot.
  2. Go to More → Settings → Bots.
  3. Select your bot and tap Edit Info.
  4. Copy the value shown under Your app key. That’s the token.

Keep this token private. Anyone who has it can send messages as your bot.

Step 2: Connect Viber in the App

  1. In the left sidebar, click Settings near the bottom.
  2. In the Settings left rail, under Channels, click Channels.
  3. Find the Viber card and click Connect.
  4. Paste your auth token.
  5. Click Connect.
  6. The app checks the token with Viber and shows “Connected to: <your bot name>”.

There’s no webhook to set up. Unlike most other channels, we register everything with Viber for you as part of connecting, so there’s nothing to copy into another console. The connected screen shows the address your messages arrive at purely so you can share it with support if you ever need to.

Step 3: Test the Bot

  1. From a different phone, open Viber and follow your bot (search for it, or use its link).
  2. Send it a message.
  3. Open the app and go to Chats. The incoming message appears in the conversation list.
  4. If an AI Agent is handling this channel, you’ll see it reply automatically.

Once connected, your Viber bot shows as Connected on the Channels page and the AI responds to incoming messages.

Who Your Bot Can Message

This is the most important thing to understand about Viber, and it’s different from every other channel:

Your bot can only message people who follow it. Someone has to find your bot and follow it before you can send them anything. There’s no way to message a Viber user who hasn’t followed your bot first.

If someone unfollows or blocks your bot, you can’t message them again until they follow it and message you. When that happens, the app marks the conversation so it stops trying, and any reply you send shows as failed with an explanation rather than silently disappearing.

Because of this, Viber works very well as a support and reply channel (someone messages you, the AI answers) and poorly as a cold-outreach channel.

Cost

Viber is a free channel in the app: no per-message charge and no monthly connection fee from us.

Your costs come from Viber, on your own account:

  • A monthly fee per bot (around €100 at the time of writing).
  • Replies within a conversation someone started are free and unlimited. This covers almost everything an AI Agent does.
  • Messages your bot starts, outside a conversation the person began, are charged per message at a rate that depends on the recipient’s country.

The practical takeaway: answering people costs you nothing beyond the monthly fee. Broadcasts and proactive follow-ups are what add up.

Media Messages

Incoming photos, videos, files, stickers, locations and shared contacts are recognized so the AI knows media was sent (a short note is added to the conversation). Outbound AI replies are text and images in this version. Long replies are automatically trimmed to Viber’s 7,000-character limit.

Session Management

Checking Connection Status

Your Viber connection status is shown on the Viber card on the Channels page:

Status Meaning
Connected A Viber bot is linked to this account
Connected, action needed Something else has taken over your bot; messages aren’t reaching us
Not connected No connection set up

The card re-checks your bot every time you open the Channels page. A Viber bot can only send its messages to one place at a time, so if you connect the same bot to another tool, that tool takes over and your messages stop arriving here, with no warning from Viber. That’s what “Connected, action needed” means. Open the card and reconnect to take it back.

Disconnecting

Open the Viber card and click Manage, then click Disconnect and confirm Remove Viber?. This stops us receiving the bot’s messages and removes it from your account. Your bot itself stays yours. Nothing changes on your Viber account.

Limitations

  • Followers only. Your bot can only message people who follow it. See Who Your Bot Can Message.
  • You need your own paid Viber bot. We can’t provide one.
  • One bot per connection. Connect each bot separately; a bot can only be linked to one account.
  • Text + image sending. The AI replies with text and images; carousels and rich cards are not sent in this version.
  • No welcome message. When someone opens your bot for the first time but hasn’t followed it yet, Viber allows a single instant greeting. This version doesn’t send one. The conversation starts when they send their first message.

Troubleshooting

Token Rejected When Connecting

  • Make sure you copied the value from Edit Info → Your app key in the Viber app, not a different id.
  • Check your bot is still active on your Viber account.
  • Connecting also checks that Viber can reach us. If your token is definitely correct and it still fails, wait a minute and try again, then contact support.

“This Viber bot is already connected to another account”

The same bot is linked to a different account in the app. Disconnect it there first, or use a different bot.

Bot Not Replying

  • Confirm the card shows Connected, not Connected, action needed.
  • Confirm the person you’re testing with has followed your bot. Viber only delivers messages from followers.
  • Check an AI Agent is assigned to this channel.

Messages Stopped Arriving

This is almost always the takeover problem described under Checking Connection Status: the same bot got connected to another tool. Open the Viber card and reconnect.

A Reply Failed With “Not Subscribed”

The person unfollowed or blocked your bot. You can’t message them until they follow it again and message you first.

Best Practices

  • Lead with support, not outreach. Replies inside a conversation someone started are free and unlimited; messages you start are charged and only reach followers.
  • Make your bot easy to follow. Put its link on your site, in your email signature, and in your other channels. Following it is the only way people can reach it.
  • Keep your auth token safe. Anyone with it can send as your bot. Regenerate it in the Viber app if it leaks, then reconnect here.
  • Don’t connect the same bot to two tools. The second one silently takes over.
